InternNE – Intern Opportunities

The Intern Nebraska (InternNE) program connects college students and employers from across the state, providing a unique opportunity for them to co-invest in the future. Internships are a great way for students to learn more about the fields they are majoring in. It also allows businesses the chance to find the right employee to join their company. More than 50% of interns become full-time employees at their place of internship, according to the National Association of Colleges and Employers.

InternNE Internship Grants

The program provides a 40% match, up to $3,500 per internship, for eligible businesses hiring eligible student interns (businesses in distressed areas may receive a 60% match up to $5,000). Eligible businesses are primarily in Manufacturing, Research & Development, Distribution, Transportation, Storage & Warehousing, Data Processing, Telecommunications, Insurance & Financial Services, Administration (Headquarters) and more.

NPPD Perspective Energywise Lighting Program

You can help cut your lighting costs 30 to 60 percent while enhancing lighting quality reducing environmental impacts. Metal Halide fixtures are being replaced by new energy efficient flourescent lighting to help reduce your enegy costs.

NPPD has the Commercial/Industrial Lighting Efficiency Program which offers cash incentives to help cover the cost of energy efficient upgrades.

Follow these easy steps:

• Visit with your electrical utility to discuss your project and pick up an application form.

• Obtain a contractor and install any of the energy-efficient lighting products as identified in the table to the right.

• Complete an application form after installation is complete.

• Submit the signed application, (along with the proof of purchase identified in the application’s terms & conditions) to your local utility for the incentive within 90 days of installation.

USDA Energy Grants Available for Businesses and Farms

Spring is here and once again the United States Department of
Agriculture is accepting applications for energy efficiency related projects to
your business or farm. Applicants can
receive up to 25% of their cost in the form of a grant, and in addition, low
interest through the USDA or Nebraska Energy Office. Applications are due on
March 30^th, 2012 with the execution of an energy audit needed before
the application can be completed.

The Rural Energy for America Program (REAP) provides assistance to
agricultural producers and rural small businesses to complete a variety of
projects. Energy audits and renewable
energy development assistance will allow agriculture producers and rural small
businesses to become more energy efficient and use renewable technologies.

The REAP program is comprised of the following components:

The Renewable Energy System and Energy
Efficiency Improvement Guaranteed Loan and Grant Program: This
provides financial assistance to
agricultural producers and rural small businesses to construct, install, and
purchase renewable energy systems. A business level feasibility study may be
required for this program. Examples of improvements may include: windows,
doors, insulation, heating, and cooling.

The Energy Audit and Renewable Energy
Development Assistance Grant Program: This
provides grant assistance to
entities that will assist agriculture producers and small rural businesses by
conducting energy audits and providing information on renewable energy
development assistance. The maximum amount for an energy audit-renewable energy
development assistance grant is $100,000. Examples include changeover of diesel
pivot systems into electric and implementation of more efficient irrigation
sprinkler packages.

The Feasibility Studies Grant Program: This program
financially assists applicants that need to complete a feasibility study, which
is required in applications for many of USDA’s and other government agencies’
energy programs.

done. Again, an energy audit will be
required by the USDA before moving forward with this program. To schedule the
audit, you will need to contact the Economic Development Office by March 20^th.

George Washington Birthday Celebration

On February 22, 2012 the Sherman County Arts Council will hold a George Washington Birthday Celebration at the Loup City Diner Meeting Room, located at 705 O St in Loup City, NE.

The celebration will be from 1:00 PM to 4:00 PM with a presentation by Sherman County Historical Society member Dennis Welty at 1:00 PM and another at 3:00 PM.

Refreshments will be provided with the celebration sponspored by King’s, Bet’s Little Shoppe, Loup City Diner, and Goldenrod Gallery.

Monsanto Grant Fund Opportunity For Area Schools

The America’s Farmers Grow Rural Education program has been introduced to help farmers positively impact their communities and support local schools. This program is sponsored by the Monsanto Fund and gives farmers the opportunity to nominate their local school district to compete for a grant up to $25,000. In all, the program will allow local school districts in 1,245 counties across 39 states to add over $2.3 million to their math and science programs.

Farmers have until April 15, 2012 to make their nominations. This is a chance show support and help your school receive up to $25,000.

2012 Nebraska Tourism Grants

The Nebraska Department of Travel and Tourism has announced there is $125,000 of its operating budget available for tourism marketing grants for 2012. There are three
grant categories: 1) Promotion of an Event, 2) Promotion of a Region, and 3) General Marketing. The minimum grant amount that can be requested is $2,000 and the maximum is $10,000. The grants are available for both for-profit and nonprofit organizations. No more than two applications can be accepted by a single applicant. Grant applications are due by January 23, 2012.

Nebraska Microenterprise Tax Credit

The Nebraska Microenterprise Tax Credit applicaiton for 2012 can be turned in anytime after November 1, 2011. Eligible applicants are business with five or fewer employees (microenterprise) and that are adding new investment in 2012 with regards to employees, equipment, leases, or capital improvements. There are $2 million dollars worth of tax credits available to use over a two year period, with a maximum of $10,000 available per applicant. This is an extremely competitive program with acceptance based on a first come, first serve basis, and it is recommended that applications (using estimated investment figures) for 2012 should be turned in as soon as possible and ideally before the end of February.

Christmas Cheer

This Saturday, December 17th from 5 to 7:30 pm, the Loup City Chamber of Commerce will be hosting its annual Christmas Cheer promotion at the Loup City Community Center.

The event will have a Scavenger Hunt/Poker Run, Chili & Chicken Noodle Soup, Coffee, Cider & Hot Chocolate, Santa Claus, Santa’s Workshop for the kids, local vendors selling their goods, and a silent auction.

USDA mortgage rates now at 3.5%
