Mission
The purpose of The Sherman County Arts Council, Inc is to act as a coordinating, educational, and services organization to foster, promote, encourage, and increase the knowledge, appreciation, and practice of the arts Sherman County and the surrounding area.
The objectives of the SCAC is to create awareness of the arts by encouraging and promoting the education, common productions and exhibits of the arts.
The Sherman County Arts Council was originally formed on July 5, 1989 and was an active organizations through June 2, 1995. The Sherman County Arts Council, Inc. a Nebraska non-profit corporation was reactivated on March 10, 2010.
The Sherman County Arts Council has been responsible for bringing in various artists to Sherman County, an art show from the Sheldon Art Gallery, a two day local art show and a public concert by Greenblatt and Seay. These activities were enjoyed by many people from Sherman County and the surrounding area.
The Loup City Theatrical Association
The Loup City Theatrical Association was founded in 2009 and is a member of the Nebraska Association of Community Theaters. The purpose of the LCTA is to provide annual theatrical productions of historical significance to Sherman County and the surrounding area.
The first production of the LCTA was held in August, 2009 and was titled, “Hey Rube” Riot on the Great Plains, a play about the 1934 riot in Loup City. The 2010 production was “Up Against the Wall” and detailed the struggles between cattle ranchers and homesteaders during the early settlement of Sherman County.
The Loup City Theatrical Association, whose members were instrumental in activating the Sherman County Arts Council, Inc, will now operate as a branch of and under the SCAC.
