BRIEF HISTORY

The Sherman County Community Foundation, Inc. is a non-profit corporation organized under the laws of the State of Nebraska with perpetual existence. It is qualified as a Section 501(c)(3) charitable foundation entitling donors to tax deductions for Federal Income and Estate Tax purposes. The Sherman County Community Foundation started as a dream - a dream of improving the quality of life in Sherman County and the surrounding area. That dream changed into reality in January 1990 with the formation of the Sherman County Community Foundation, Inc.

MISSION

The mission of the foundation is to encourage, receive and administer contributions and gifts for the benefit of the Sherman County area. Funding for the Sherman County Community Foundation, Inc. is received from individuals, businesses, corporations, and decedent’s estates. Contributions and memorials can be made in the form of cash, securities, real estate, life insurance and personal properties. In addition to a general fund, several funds have been created to serve the various desires of donors, including scholarship funds, community funds and school funds.

MEMORIALS

A Book of Memory was created to provide a dignified and enduring tribute to the memory of a departed friend or relative. A gift of twenty-five dollars or more, given in memory of a loved one, assures the inscription of the name of the departed in the Book of Memory.

NAMED FUNDS

Memorials or contributions given in an amount equivalent to $1,000 or more will be placed, on request of the donor, in a separate account. The donor may also name this fund and may designate its use for a particular purpose.

BENEFACTORS

Individuals or organizations making (or having made in their name) gifts of $1,000 or more are termed “Benefactors”. Benefactors’ names are placed on a permanent plaque located in the Sherman County Court House.

The Sherman County Community Foundation, Inc. is an appropriate charity to be identified in your will and estate plan. By your designation, you will be able to continue to support your community and be remembered by future generations. Please consult with your attorney or tax professional when considering making a gift and/or bequest.
